Associate in Science General Education · Palomar College · 2026-2027 Catalog

The Associate of Science in General Studies: Emphasis in Science and Math is an interdisciplinary degree, designed for students to gain a focused area of study by taking coursework that emphasizes the study of diverse scientific, mathematical, and quantitative reasoning skills. This major may serve students in preparation for employment, personal development, or pathway exploration for those who would like to review and assess their academic skills and interests before deciding on a definite major program of study. This major is designed for students who are seeking a local Associate Degree and not planning to transfer to a four-year university. Therefore, completion of this degree may not provide completion of the lower-division transfer requirements for transfer to a four-year institution. Please consult with a Palomar College counselor for additional guidance.

Learning Outcome(s):

  1. Utilize critical thinking skills to define and apply concepts in order to make informed decisions in real-world scenarios.
  2. Apply key scientific concepts, theories, and principles to evaluate or synthesize conclusions.
  3. Utilize mathematical reasoning to analyze data and/or solve problems.
