Economics for Transfer - AA-T

Description

The Associate in Arts in Economics for Transfer degree enables students to understand the world in a more analytical way, particularly clarifying the process of decision-making. Whenever choices are made between alternative activities — for example, a business decision to hire more workers or, instead, buy a new machine — there will be an impact. Each alternative has associated costs and benefits. Economics teaches us how to analyze the costs and benefits so that we can make more intelligent choices. Economics also addresses the impact of decisions upon equity (fairness), particularly as measured by the distribution of wealth and income. Studying economics is excellent preparation for a career in law, industry, banking, accounting, private consulting, teaching, and government service. The AA-T degree in Economics prepares students for upper division and graduate level courses in economics at the many universities that emphasize the mathematical approach to economics. With a greater emphasis on mathematics than the Political Economics AA, this degree better prepares students for employment in areas requiring mathematical and statistical skills, e.g., actuarial science, forensics economists, cost estimating, claims adjusting, management, advertising and marketing, and data collection for various government and private sector entities.

This Associate Degree for Transfer is intended for students who plan to complete a bachelor’s degree in a similar major at a CSU campus. Students completing this degree are guaranteed admission to the CSU system, but not to a particular campus or major.
