Associate in Arts Engineering · Allan Hancock College · 2026-2027 Catalog

Award Type: Associate in Arts

The associate degree in engineering provides lower-division coursework that can serve as the basis for a bachelor's degree offered by a four-year college or university. Students who intend to transfer should check the lower-division requirements in the catalog of the college or university to which they intend to transfer, create a comprehensive Student Educational Plan with an academic counselor, visit www.assist.org, and consult the engineering faculty. The engineering program provides a general background suitable for a variety of engineering fields including mechanical, civil, aerospace, electrical, computer and biomedical engineering.

The graduate of the Associate in Arts in Engineering will:

  1. Apply fundamental concepts of mathematics (through calculus), science and engineering.
  2. Identify, formulate, and solve basic engineering problems.
  3. Conduct experiments and analyze and interpret data.
  4. Make basic design decisions concerning appropriate-level engineering problems.
  5. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing, using symbols, graphics and numbers.
  6. Recognize the need for, and an ability to engage in, lifelong learning.
  7. Function professionally and ethically as an individual and within diverse teams.
  8. Use techniques, skills and modern engineering tools necessary in engineering education and practice.

General Education
In addition to completing the program requirements, students are also required to complete general education courses. Students may follow the AHC GE or the Cal-GETC pathways to meet these requirements. Students intending to transfer to a four-year university should use the Cal-GETC GE pathway. To see what major courses and general education requirements you need to fulfill, visit your myHancock account and select the DegreeWorks button in the Academic Profile widget. For more information and guidance, and to receive a detailed education plan, make an appointment with an academic counselor.
