Students who intend to transfer should check the lower-division requirements in the catalog of the college or university to which they intend to transfer, create a comprehensive Student Educational Plan with an academic counselor, visit www.assist.org, and consult the engineering faculty. The engineering program provides a general background suitable for a variety of engineering fields including mechanical, civil, aerospace, electrical, computer and biomedical engineering. **The graduate of the Associate in Arts in Engineering will:** 1. Apply fundamental concepts of mathematics (through calculus), science and engineering. 2. Identify, formulate, and solve basic engineering problems. 3. Conduct experiments and analyze and interpret data. 4. Make basic design decisions concerning appropriate-level engineering problems. 5. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing, using symbols, graphics and numbers. 6. Recognize the need for, and an ability to engage in, lifelong learning. 7. Function professionally and ethically as an individual and within diverse teams. 8. Use techniques, skills and modern engineering tools necessary in engineering education and practice. | Course | Title | Units | | --- | --- | --- | | **A major of 36 units is required for the degree.** | | | | **Required core courses (21 units):** | | 21 | | CHEM 150 | General Chemistry 1 | 5 | | MATH C2210 | Calculus I: Early Transcendentals | 4 | | MATH C2220 | Calculus II: Early Transcendentals | 4 | | PHYS 161 | Engineering Physics 1 | 4 | | **Select one course from the following:** | | 4 | | PHYS 162 | Engineering Physics 2 | 4 | | PHYS 163 | Engineering Physics 3 | 4 | | **Categories A and/or B (15 total units, at least 6 of which must be from Category A):** | | 15 | | **Category A - Engineering Courses:** | | 6-15 | | ENGR 100 | Introduction to Engineering | 1 | | ENGR 124 | Excel for Science and Engineering | 1 | | ENGR 126 | MATLAB for Science and Engineering | 1 | | ENGR 152 | Statics | 3 | | ENGR 154 | Dynamics | 3 | | ENGR 156 | Strength of Materials | 4 | | **If the following course is taken, the lab must also be taken:** | | 4 | | ENGR 161 | Materials Science | 3 | | ENGR 162 | Materials Science Lab | 1 | | **If the following course is taken, the lab must also be taken:** | | 4 | | ENGR 170 | Electric Circuit Analysis | 3 | | ENGR 171 | Electric Circuit Lab | 1 | | **Category B - Engineering Support Courses:** | | 0-9 | | CHEM 151 | General Chemistry 2 | 5 | | CS 111 | Fundamentals of Programming 1 | 4 | | CS 112 | Fundamentals of Programming 2 | 4 | | ET 140 | Engineering Drawing | 3 | | ET 145 | Advanced Engineering Drawing | 3 | | MATH 183 | Multivariable Calculus | 4 | | MATH 184 | Linear Algebra/Differential Equations | 5 | | **Select one from the following (the physics course not already used to satisfy the Required Core Courses):** | | 8 | | PHYS 162 | Engineering Physics 2 | 4 | | PHYS 163 | Engineering Physics 3 | 4 | | **General Education** | | | | **In addition to completing the program requirements, students are also required to complete general education courses.
