Cal-GETC

This certificate is designed for students planning to transfer to a California State University (CSU) or University of California (UC) campus. It ensures that the student has met the lower division California General Education Transfer Curriculum requirements for all CSU and UC campuses. Earning this Certificate of Achievement will not replace the Cal-GETC Certification document. The “Certification of Cal-GETC” is a separate process. Students must request Cal-GETC Certification at the time they request a final WCC transcript to be sent to the UC or CSU school they plan on attending. File this request with the Office of Admissions and Records.

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

• Demonstrate effective expository and persuasive writing skills across the curriculum.
• Develop and refine critical thinking skills necessary to evaluate and produce academic and argumentative writing.
• Communicate ideas of an informative and persuasive nature in the public speaking mode.
• Develop, present, use, and critique quantitative arguments.
• Analyze and appreciate works of philosophical, historical, literary, aesthetic and cultural importance.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the cultural and social organizations in which they exist as well as the behavior and social organizations of other human societies.
• Articulate basic scientific concepts of the physical and biological aspects of the world as well as an understanding of limitations and power of science as a human endeavor.
• Analyze and articulate concepts such as race and racism, racialization, ethnicity, equity, ethnocentrism, eurocentrism, white supremacy, self-determination, liberation, decolonization, sovereignty, imperialism, settler colonialism, and antiracism as analyzed in any one or more of the following: Native American Studies, African American Studies, Asian American Studies, and Chicana/o Studies.
