Emergency Medical Technician
Certificate of Achievement Emergency Medical Technician · Woodland Community College · 2026-2027 Catalog
Emergency Medical Technicians are practitioners who respond to emergencies before a patient reaches a hospital, rendering basic medical treatment before and during transport to a medical facility. Classroom and clinical training prepares Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) to assess and treat a wide variety of medical emergencies. The knowledge, skills, and experience gained through a one semester program allows students to meet requirements of the California EMS Authority and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). Upon successful completion, students are eligible to take the National Registry EMT certifying examination and qualify for a California State EMT certification to become an Emergency Medical Technician.
Working as an Emergency Medical Technician means helping people in dynamic situations while using skills to get patients through difficult situations. This program is also a great choice for students looking to take the first step to many other career paths, such as becoming a paramedic, firefighter, physician’s assistant, nurse, or ER technician.
