WELD-51 Introduction to Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
- Units
- 2
- Hours
- 18 lecture hours, 54 lab hours
- C-ID
- WELD 101X
An introduction to the principles of shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), setup/use of SMAW equipment, and safe use of tools and equipment. Provides instruction in welding carbon steel weld joints in various positions.
WELD-52 Introduction to Welding and Oxy-Acetylene Welding
- Units
- 3
- Hours
- 36 lecture hours, 54 lab hours
Overview of GMAW (gas metal arc welding), GTAW (gas tungsten arc welding), SMAW (shielded metal arc welding), and OFW (oxy-fuel welding) processes. Also the OFC (oxy-fuel cutting) and Plasma Arc cutting technologies are included. Gas welding processes: background, safety, applications and methods of operation; welding, burning, brazing and soldering. Activities include learning to weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
WELD-53 Advanced Arc Welding
- Units
- 3
- Hours
- 36 lecture hours, 54 lab hours
- Prerequisite
- Satisfactory completion of WELD51 or related industry experience - see Credit for Prior learning process in catalog.
An advanced course designed to prepare students to pass structural steel certification (AWS D1.1) in vertical and overhead positions using SMAW (shielded metal arc welding) processes. Strict adherence to the testing procedures will be followed. Completion of the class does not guarantee AWS certification unless welding procedure qualification tests are passed. This course also includes fundamentals of blueprint reading and symbols.
WELD-54 Introduction to Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) & Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)
- Units
- 4
- Hours
- 36 lecture hours, 108 lab hours
- C-ID
- WELD 102X, WELD 104X
An introduction to the principles of gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), setup/use of GMAW & GTAW equipment, and safe use of tools and equipment. Provides instruction in welding carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum weld joints in various positions.
WELD-55 Structure Design and Fabrication
- Units
- 4
- Hours
- 54 lecture hours, 54 lab hours
- Prerequisite
- Satisfactory completion of WELD51 or related industry experience - see Credit for Prior learning process in catalog.
Structural weld design and fabrication of weldments. Topics include operation of mechanized iron worker, arc weld of stainless, aluminum and cast iron. Fundamentals of blueprint reading, welding symbols, and layout techniques.
WELD-56 Introduction to Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) & Structural Steel
- Units
- 4
- Hours
- 54 lecture hours, 54 lab hours
- Prerequisite
- Satisfactory completion of WELD51 or related industry experience - see Credit for Prior learning process in catalog.
- C-ID
- WELD 103X
An introduction to the principles of flux cored arc welding (FCAW), setup/use of FCAW equipment, and safe use of tools and equipment. Provides instruction in welding carbon steel weld joints in various positions. Emphasizes developing structural steel skills using innershield, dual shield and flux cored arc welding practices. Course includes ferrous metal identification and welding characteristics, troubleshooting equipment and welds completed in various positions.
