A.S.-T Degree for Transfer Biology · Santa Ana College · 2026-2027 Catalog
Program Code: SAC.BIOL.AST
Program Control Number: 35134
The Associate in Science in Biology for Transfer prepares students to move into a curriculum at a four-year institution leading to a baccalaureate degree in Biology or similar majors. Please consult a counselor regarding specific course requirements for your transfer institution. Completion of the AST degree also provides guaranteed admission to the California State University (CSU) system with junior status, although not to a particular campus or major.
Upon completion of the Biology AS-T degree, students will have the necessary foundation for upper division coursework as biology majors. In particular, students will demonstrate a strong understanding of biological principles and processes, as well as the ability to apply scientific methods to analyze data and solve complex problems. They will also possess critical thinking skills, proficiency in laboratory techniques, and a solid foundation in areas such as genetics, ecology, and microbiology, preparing them for diverse careers in science, healthcare, and research. The Biology AS-T is a starting point for students who are preparing for careers in biological sciences, biomedical sciences, and related fields including but not limited to research, consulting and government work, where scientific and technical skills are in high demand.
Requirements for all Associate Degrees for Transfer:
- Completion of 60 semester CSU transferable units.
- Completion of the California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC). The CSU-GE (California State University General Education Breadth) or IGETC (Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum) pattern may be used in some cases; please see a counselor for details.
- Obtainment of a minimum grade point average of at least a 2.0 in all CSU transferable coursework.
- Minimum grade of "C" (or "P") for each course in the major. If the course was taken on a Pass/No Pass basis the "P" must be equal to a "C" or better.
- Completion of a minimum of 18 semester units in the major or area of emphasis.
Learning Outcome(s):
- Students will successfully complete the sequence of biology courses needed for transfer (Biology 211 and 212, or Biology 211 and 214).
- Students will successfully transfer to universities.
