Health Sciences

Description

San José City College offers a Certificate of Achievement in Health Sciences. This certificate will provide students with a strong foundation in human anatomy, human physiology, and microbiology. The courses in this certificate are the common prerequisites for community college and university health occupations majors including nursing, respiratory therapy, radiological science, physical therapy, occupational health, dental assistant, and dental hygiene.

A grade of "C" or better is required in all coursework for the major. A "P" (Pass) grade is an acceptable grade for courses in the major if the course is taken on a "pass/no pass" basis.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

• Describe the structure and function of the cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems of the human body.
• Examine how the body maintains homeostasis and predict how it will respond when compensating for deviations from homeostasis.
• Investigate how microorganisms interact with the human body and examine how these interactions lead to health or human disease.
