STAT 001E Essential Topics for Statistics (formerly MATH 013E)
- Units
- 1
- Hours
- 18 Lecture
- Corequisite
- STAT C1000
- Advisory
- It is advised that students be able to engage in written composition at a college level and read college-level texts.
This support course is designed to develop the mathematical knowledge and study skills necessary for successful completion of Introduction to Statistics (STAT C1000). Students must be concurrently enrolled in a section of STAT C1000 to take this support course. Topics from algebra and intermediate algebra are covered to build a foundation for college-level statistics. Strategic reading, critical thinking and problem-solving are incorporated to build the strategies needed to solve contextualized problems. Topics in the area of study skills are also included to support students in a college-level math course. This is a non-degree applicable course offered on a pass/no pass basis.
STAT C1000 Introduction to Statistics (formerly MATH 130)
- Units
- 4
- Hours
- 72 Lecture
- Prerequisite
- Placement as determined by the college’s multiple measures assessment process or completion of a course taught at or above the level of intermediate algebra.
- Advisory
- ENGL C1000, READ 101
- Transfers to
- CSU, UC
- C-ID
- MATH 110
This course is an introduction to statistical thinking and processes, including methods and concepts for discovery and decision-making using data. Topics include descriptive statistics; probability and sampling distributions; statistical inference; correlation and linear regression; analysis of variance, chi-squared, and t-tests; and application of technology for statistical analysis including the interpretation of the relevance of the statistical findings. Students apply methods and processes to applications using data from a broad range of disciplines.
