CHEM 1000 Introduction to Chemistry
- Units
- 5
- Hours
- 4 hours lecture weekly, 3 hours lab weekly, 126 contact hours total
- Prerequisite
- Elementary algebra or higher, or eligibility for transfer level mathematics.
- Transfers to
- CSU, UC
- C-ID
- CHEM 101
Chemistry 1000 is designed for general education students, students transferring into allied health and some biology programs, and as a preparation course for General Chemistry. This course will provide students an understanding of introductory chemical topics including the properties of matter, atomic structure, bonding, nomenclature, chemical reactions, energy, equilibrium, acids and bases, solutions and nuclear chemistry. C-ID CHEM 101.
CHEM 1050 Chemistry in Society
- Units
- 3
- Hours
- 3 hours lecture weekly, 54 contact hours total
- Transfers to
- CSU, UC
This course will survey the wide range of different areas in society that fall within the field of chemistry. Students will fundamentally explore different topics of chemistry through real world applications, chemistry in the home, environment, medicine, art, as well as the fundamentals of the subject. The course is designed for non-science majors.
CHEM 2000 General Chemistry I
- Units
- 5
- Hours
- 3 hours lecture weekly, 6 hours lab weekly, 162 contact hours total
- Prerequisite
- CHEM 1000 (Introduction to Chemistry) with a grade of C or better or completion of one year of high school chemistry with lab or qualification by assessment.
- Transfers to
- CSU, UC
- C-ID
- CHEM 110
Chemistry 2000 involves a detailed study of the principles and calculations of matter and measurement, atomic structure and theory, bonding and nomenclature, reactions and stoichiometry, gases, enthalpy, periodic properties, bonding theories, liquids and solid state chemistry, and solutions. It is strongly recommended that both semesters be completed at a single institution before transfer. C-ID CHEM 110. CHEM 2000 + CHEM 2100 = C-ID CHEM 120 S.
CHEM 2100 General Chemistry II
