Emergency Management/Homeland Security: Criminal Justice

Associate of Arts Degree Emergency Management · Coastline College · 2026-2027 Catalog

The Emergency Management/Homeland Security (EM/HS) degree with a concentration in criminal justice is designed to prepare students for entry into the protective service fields of homeland security, emergency management, and justice administration. Our curriculum is designed to provide the learner with a foundation of technical and professional knowledge needed to solve complex public safety problems. Studying homeland security in an academic setting includes learning about protective measures governments put in place to minimize security threats, ranging from natural disasters to organized terrorist activities. Students who concentrate in the criminal justice field learn about law enforcement, the courts and correctional systems, exploring how different jurisdictions – city, county, state, federal or tribal governments – protect their communities from crime. The EM/HS/CJ program of study includes areas as diverse as disaster management, criminal investigation, legal analysis, and business communication. The emergency management/homeland security degree focusing on criminal justice studies puts students on a path toward employment fields ranging from emergency management, customs and border protection, cyber-crime, and transportation

Criminal Justice courses at Coastline are only offered online to meet the needs of our global military community.
