IETMECH 400 Introduction to Mechatronics
- Units
- 4
- Hours
- 48-54 Lecture, 48-54 Laboratory
- Prerequisite
- Completion with a C or better in: IET 401A and; IET 401B
- Advisory
- IETELMT 430 or
Introduction to Mechatronics provides a wide range of manufacturing topics including safety, rigging systems, basic measurements and adjustments, the fundamentals of mechanical drives, fluid power, and electrical concepts. Students will develop a comprehensive understanding of machine functions, of electrical, mechanical, and fluid power and how they are used in real-world applications.
IETMECH 401 Robotics and Sequencing
- Units
- 4
- Hours
- 56-63 Lecture, 24-27 Laboratory
- Prerequisite
- Completion with a C or better in: IET 411 and; IETMECH 400 or
In this course, students will learn how to program and operate collaborative robots (cobots). This course also teaches Programmable Logic Controls (PLC) to expand on programming from the prior class including timers, counters, math, move (MOV) and compare functions found in CompactLogix PLC controllers. Students program motor controllers / sequences, servo-robotic assembly systems, along with operations through adjusting sensors, writing programs, and developing logic to sequence operations of automatic controls. This course covers robotic safety, pendant navigation, jogging, tool center point, different move types, as well as creating programs for palletizing, and pick and place operations. Students also learn other programming fundamentals, such as features and planes, the use of variables, and sub-programs.
IETMECH 402 Mechatronics Troubleshooting
- Units
- 4
- Hours
- 56-63 Lecture, 24-27 Laboratory
- Prerequisite
- Completion with a C or better in: IETMECH 401 or
This course covers control system troubleshooting, operation and adjustments of electro-mechanical systems, and the functions of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) digital Inputs and Outputs (I/O) that interface with field devices. Students will focus on troubleshooting methods using a CompactLogix PLC, and how to troubleshoot control system faults. This course provides exploration into troubleshooting methods using digital multi-meters, PLC ladder logic, and other instruments to test equipment used in industry to analyze faults with industrial control systems. Students learn how to operate, program, and adjust parameters, as well as troubleshoot AC variable frequency drives (VFD). Students will use industry recognized software (CCW and or Studio 5000) to monitor, network, and program VFDs and PLCs.
IETMECH 403 Robotics Operations and Programming
- Units
- 2
- Hours
- 24-27 Lecture, 24-27 Laboratory
This course covers robotics handling tool operations and programming of servo-robotic assembly systems. This course also covers the safe operation of robot systems including: setup, frames, motion instructions, understanding pendent, creating a program, as well as I/O (Inputs and Outputs) and interfacing. Students will learn to power up and jog the robot, execute production operations and create, modify, and execute a material handling program. A student can earn a Fanuc CERT - Robotics Handling Tool Operations and Programming Certificate.
