ASTRON 26 Stars and Galaxies
- Units
- 3
- Hours
- 48-54 Lecture
- Transfers to
- CSU, UC
Overview of the universe beyond our solar system. Understand progressively larger structures in Astronomy, such as stars, galaxies, and extra-galactic structures by understanding the processes that shape them. Use the scientific method, basic physical concepts, and observations (from telescopes, spacecraft, neutrino and gravity wave detectors, etc.) Briefly consider relativity, black holes, spacetime, and the history and fate of the universe.
ASTRON 27 Life in the Universe
- Units
- 3
- Hours
- 48-54 Lecture
- Transfers to
- CSU, UC
Study of extraterrestrial life in the Universe. Includes scientific methods for finding extraterrestrial life, the conditions and processes relevant to life in the Universe, and the origin and evolution of life on Earth.
ASTRON 27L Life in the Universe Laboratory
- Units
- 1
- Hours
- 48-54 Laboratory
- Corequisite
- Concurrent or Previous Enrollment or completion with a C or better in: ASTRON 27
- Transfers to
- CSU, UC
This is an optional laboratory course for ASTRON-27 "Life in the Universe". Use tools and methods of science applicable to the search for extraterrestrial life, the conditions and processes relevant to life in the Universe, and the origin and evolution of life on Earth.
ASTRON 35 Planets and the Solar System with Lab
- Units
- 4
- Hours
- 48-54 Lecture, 48-54 Laboratory
- Transfers to
- CSU, UC
Study of planets, moons, and other bodies in our solar system and in extrasolar planetary systems. Using observations from telescopes and spacecraft, the scientific method and basic concepts from physics, geology, and other sciences to identify and explain formative processes and unique characteristics. Laboratory activities include formulating a scientific investigation, selecting the appropriate tools and methods of planetary science to image, measure, and/or observe phenomena, analyzing data, identifying error, and reporting results.
