Community Health Worker II Certificate of Achievement

Community Health Workers (CHW's) are members of the community who work either for pay or as volunteers in association with the local health care systems. CHW's usually share ethnicity, language, socioeconomic status, and life experiences with the community members they serve. CHW's go by many titles, such as community health advisors, lay health advocates, promotoras, outreach educators, community health representatives, peer health promoters, and peer health educators. Positions include but are not limited to interpretation and translation services, provide culturally appropriate health education and information, help people get the care they need, give informal counseling, guidance on health behaviors and advocate for individual and community health needs. The Community Health Worker II Certificate is a two semester 16-18 credit Certificate of Achievement. The COA is the second order of programs after the Community Health Worker I Job Skills Certificate. There are no prerequisites need prior to enrollment. Upon completion of the required courses with at least a "C" or "P" (pass) grade in each course, the student will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement.
