--- name: fast-schedule description: Look up college and university catalogs (programs, degree, certificate and minor requirements, course descriptions, prerequisites, transferability) and class schedules (sections, meeting times, instructors, seats), for current and past catalog editions. Use when someone asks about a college's or university's programs, majors, minors, degrees, certificates, courses, or which classes are offered in a term. --- # Fast Schedule: college and university catalogs and class schedules Base URL: https://fastschedule.net Everything is static JSON or Markdown, needs no API key, and can be fetched directly. Prefer the `.md` files when you need to read or summarize content, and the `.json` files when you need to filter. ## MCP server The same data is available as a remote MCP server (Streamable HTTP, no sign-in): **https://fastschedule.net/mcp**. Add it as a custom connector in Claude, or as a remote MCP server in any MCP client. Its tools: - `list_schools`: schools, catalog years and terms - `search_courses`: courses by topic or code, across schools, optionally only those transferring to UC or CSU - `get_course`: one course's full entry and which terms offer it - `search_programs` and `get_program`: majors, minors, degrees and certificates, and their requirements - `find_sections`: class sections by course or subject, filtered by days, times, format, open seats or instructor The rest of this file describes the static files, for fetching them directly. ## Colleges and universities available - Allan Hancock College (also: AHC, Hancock, Hancock College): slug `allan-hancock-college` - Antelope Valley College (also: AVC, Antelope Valley, Antelope Valley Community College District): slug `antelope-valley-college` - Berkeley City College (also: Berkeley City, BCC): slug `berkeley-city-college` - Butte College (also: Butte, Butte-Glenn Community College District, BCCD): slug `butte-college` - Chabot College (also: Chabot): slug `chabot-college` - Chaffey College (also: Chaffey, Chaffey Community College District): slug `chaffey-college` - Coastline College (also: Coastline, Coastline Community College): slug `coastline-college` - College of Alameda (also: Alameda, CoA): slug `college-of-alameda` - College of the Desert (also: COD, Desert, Desert Community College District): slug `college-of-the-desert` - College of the Siskiyous (also: Siskiyous, COS, College of the Siskiyous Weed, Siskiyou Joint Community College District): slug `college-of-the-siskiyous` - Cuesta College (also: Cuesta, San Luis Obispo County Community College District, SLOCCCD): slug `cuesta-college` - Evergreen Valley College (also: EVC, Evergreen Valley, Evergreen, SJECCD): slug `evergreen-valley-college` - Gavilan College (also: Gavilan): slug `gavilan-college` - Golden West College (also: GWC, Golden West): slug `golden-west-college` - Lake Tahoe Community College (also: LTCC, Lake Tahoe, Lake Tahoe College, Lake Tahoe Community College District): slug `lake-tahoe-community-college` - Laney College (also: Laney, LC): slug `laney-college` - Las Positas College (also: LPC, Las Positas): slug `las-positas-college` - Merritt College (also: Merritt, MC): slug `merritt-college` - MiraCosta College (also: MiraCosta, MCC, Mira Costa College, MiraCosta Community College District): slug `miracosta-college` - Mt. It is small enough to read whole. `programs.json` has the same list as JSON (`id`, `name`, `award`, `department`, `md` and `json` links) for filtering, but is much larger. 4. **One program:** `/c/{slug}/catalog/{edition}/programs/{id}.md` gives the description, requirements as course tables (with units and "select N units from" groups), and notes. 5. **Courses:** `/c/{slug}/catalog/{edition}/index.json` lists subjects. `/c/{slug}/catalog/{edition}/courses/{subject}.md` gives every course in a subject with units, prerequisites, transferability (CSU/UC, at community colleges), C-ID and description. The subject slug is the lowercase code, e.g. `engl`. 6. **Class schedule:** `/c/{slug}/schedule/{term}/index.json` gives the term's start and end dates, its sessions (full term, first 8 weeks, late start…) with dates, a link to the college's official academic calendar, and its subjects. `/c/{slug}/schedule/{term}/{subject}.md` gives sections with their registration number (CRN; "Code" at UC Irvine), format, meeting days and times, dates, instructor and seats. Edition keys look like `2026-2027`. Term keys look like `fall-2026`; quarter-system universities also have `winter-2027`, and one key per summer session (`summer1-2026`, `summer10wk-2026`, `summer2-2026`). Each catalog edition is an academic year, and the schedule terms in that year are linked to it: - In a subject's course `.md`, each course has an **Offered** line listing the terms of that catalog year that schedule it, with section counts and links. The `.json` gives the same as `offered` on each course. "Not on the … schedules" means none of the published terms of that year offer it. - `/c/{slug}/catalog/{edition}/index.json` has `schedules`: that year's published terms. - Schedule term and subject files have a `catalog` link to the edition for their year (`sameYear: false` means that year's catalog is not published, so the current one stands in). - A subject in either `index.json` may have `alsoContains`: other course-code prefixes filed under it (STAT courses on MATH's page); `courses/stat.md` then repeats just those courses and names the page that holds them. `current` works in place of either: `/c/{slug}/catalog/current/...` and `/c/{slug}/schedule/current/...` serve the current edition and term. ## Example: "Talk to me about the English program at Allan Hancock College" 1. `GET https://fastschedule.net/colleges.json`: "Allan Hancock College" → slug `allan-hancock-college` 2. `GET https://fastschedule.net/c/allan-hancock-college/catalog/current/programs.md`: find the programs whose name or department heading mentions English. There are often several: at a community college, a transfer degree (AA-T), a local AA, and certificates; at a university, a B.A. or B.S., a minor, and graduate degrees. 3. `GET` each matching program's linked `.md` page and explain what each option is for, its required and elective courses, and its total units. 4. For course details, `GET https://fastschedule.net/c/allan-hancock-college/catalog/current/courses/engl.md`. 5. To say what is actually offered, read each course's **Offered** line in that file, then `GET` the linked schedule file (e.g. https://fastschedule.net/c/allan-hancock-college/schedule/current/engl.md for Fall 2026) for days, times, instructors and seats. ## Rules for answering - **Cite both sources.** Name the catalog edition you used (e.g. "2026-2027 catalog") and link the Fast Schedule page. Next to it, link the school's own page: the `Source:` line at the top of each `.md` file (`sourceUrl` in the `.json`). - Use the current edition unless the user names a year. Students who started earlier may be on an older catalog ("catalog rights"); past editions are listed in `/c/{slug}/index.json`. - Schedules and seat counts change daily. Say when the data was captured (`capturedAt`). When it helps, mention registration and tell users to confirm seats in the school's registration system before enrolling. - **School not covered:** say in one line that Fast Schedule doesn't cover it, then answer the question fully from the school's official catalog and schedule pages. Don't stop at pointing the user there. - **Region-wide questions** (e.g. "nursing programs in San Diego County"): find the covered colleges by `location` (city) and `district` in `/colleges.json`, answer for the covered colleges, then name the region's other colleges and answer for them from their official sources where you can, or tell the user to check them. - **Hide the plumbing.** Present dates, times, units and requirements in plain language. Don't show JSON field names, file paths or slugs. - Do not make up requirements. If something is not in the data, say so and check the school's official catalog, or suggest an advisor.
