# Chemistry (Associate in Science for Transfer) Woodland Community College · 2026-2027 Catalog · Department: Chemistry Source: https://wcc.yccd.edu/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/WCC-Catalog-2026-27.pdf#page=127 Chemistry is the science that studies the composition and properties of substances and the changes they undergo. The Associate in Science in Chemistry for Transfer (AS-T in Chemistry) is designed to allow students to complete the first and second year requirements to transfer to the California State University campus in Chemistry or a related major. Students with a degree in chemistry may pursue careers in a variety of fields such as pharmacy, medicine, engineering, teaching, biotechnology, patent law, and forensic science. While at least a baccalaureate degree is recommended preparation for those considering professional careers, completion of this curriculum will demonstrate commitment to the field and provide comprehensive preparation for further academic study through upper-division coursework. For chemistry majors with the goal of applying to CSU as well as UC, there's a lot of overlap in coursework; students applying to UC will be expected to complete multivariable calculus and differential equations. Students are advised to follow the IGETC for STEM pattern to complete the degree in 60 units. Please consult with a counselor for further information. Students who complete an Associate Degree for Transfer (AA-T or AS-T) will receive priority admission with junior status to the California State University System and priority admission consideration to their local CSU campus or to a program that is deemed similar to their community college major. This priority does not guarantee admission to specific majors or campuses. Students should consult with a counselor for more information on specific university major admission and transfer requirements. The following are required for all AA-T or AS-T degrees: - Minimum of 60 CSU transferrable semester units - Minimum grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.0 in all CSU-transferable coursework - Completion of all courses in the major with grade of C or better or a P if the course is taken on a pass-no pass basis; - Certified completion of the California State University General Education-Breadth pattern (CSU GE Breadth) or the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) pattern ### Student Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to: - Think and reason scientifically to solve real life problems. - Use mathematical calculations in chemistry problem solving. **Required Courses for Major** | Course | Title | Units | | --- | --- | --- | | CHEM-1A | General Chemistry I | 5 | | CHEM-1B | General Chemistry II | 5 | | CHEM-18A | Organic Chemistry for Health and Life Sciences I, With Lab | 5 | | CHEM-18B | Organic Chemistry for Health and Life Sciences II, With Lab | 5 | | MATH-C2210 | Calculus I: Early Transcendentals | 4 | | MATH-C2220 | Calculus II: Early Transcendentals | 4 | | PHYS-4A | Mechanics | 4 | | PHYS-4B | Electromagnetism | 4 | | **Total units** | | **36** |
