Students use experimentation and investigation to develop important critical thinking skills. Students learn about the process of science, the building blocks of life, the role and regulation of DNA, how populations change over time, the movement of energy within and between life forms, and how species interact with each other and their surroundings. By the end of the course, students will be able to apply an understanding of biological concepts to current issues and their impacts on society. ### BIOL-1 — Introduction to Biological Molecules, Cells, and Cellular Processes - **Units:** 5 - **Hours:** 54 lecture hours, 108 lab hours - **Prerequisite:** Intermediate Algebra or equivalent - **Advisory:** Eligibility for college level composition (C-ID ENGL 100) - **C-ID:** BIOL 190 - **Transfers to:** CSU, UC - **Offered:** Fall 2026, 2 sections (/c/woodland-community-college/schedule/fall-2026/biol.md) - Letter Grade or Pass/No Pass - Counts toward WCC Graduation Area 5 - Cal-GETC: 5B, 5C An introduction to biology for majors that emphasizes the molecular, cellular, and environmental processes that are common to most organisms.
