# Social Work and Human Services (A.A. Degree for Transfer) Santiago Canyon College · 2025-2026 Catalog · Department: Biology Source: https://sccollege.elumenapp.com/catalog/catalog/program/social-work-and-human-services-aa-t-spring-intersession-2026 The Social Work and Human Services Associate in Arts Degree for Transfer provides an interdisciplinary exploration of courses and content that prepares students to transfer to a four-year university as either Social Work or Human Services majors. This program allows students to blend theory with fieldwork experience while incorporating critical thinking and self-exploration. Successful completion of this degree will guarantee admission to a California State University that has a similar degree program, but not to a particular campus, and allow students to complete a bachelors degree. Students are strongly encouraged to meet with a counselor to discuss transfer options. ### Program Courses & Requirements | Course | Title | Units | | --- | --- | --- | | **Social Work and Human Services, AA-T: Complete all of the following** | | 29.5-30.5 | | **Required Core** | | 4 | | **General Biology Requirement** | | 3 | | BIOL 109 | Fundamentals of Biology | 3 | | BIOL 109H | Honors Fundamentals of Biology | 3 | | **Biological Sciences Lab Requirement** | | 1-4 | | BIOL 109HL | Honors Fundamentals of Biology Laboratory | 1 | | BIOL 109L | Fundamentals of Biology Laboratory | 1 | | BIOL 149 | Human Anatomy and Physiology | 4 | | BIOL 239 | General Human Anatomy | 4 | | BIOL 249 | Human Physiology | 4 | | **Required core continued** | | 19.5 | | **Counseling Requirement: Complete all of the following** | | 6 | | CNSL 150 | Introduction to Social Work and Human Services | 3 | | CNSL 160A | The Helping Professions Seminar | 1 | | CNSL 160B | Fieldwork Experience for the Helping Professions | 2 | | **Economics Requirement** | | 3 | | ECON 101 | Principles/Micro | 3 | | ECON 102 | Principles/Macro | 3 | | **Statistics and Probability Requirement: Select one course.** | | 4-4.5 | | STAT C1000 | Introduction to Statistics | 4 | | STAT C1000E | Introduction to Statistics | 4.5 | | STAT C1000H | Introduction to Statistics - Honors | 4 | | **Psychology Requirement** | | 3 | | PSYC C1000 | Introduction to Psychology | 3 | | PSYC C1000H | Introduction to Psychology - Honors | 3 | | **Sociology Requirement** | | 3 | | SOC 100 | Introduction to Sociology | 3 | | SOC 100H | Honors Introduction to Sociology | 3 | | **Select (2) two courses from the following (List A)** | | 6-7 | | ANTH 100 | Introduction to Cultural Anthropology | 3 | | ANTH 100H | Honors Introduction to Cultural Anthropology | 3 | | CDEV 107 | Child Growth and Development (DS1) | 3 | | PSYC 157 | Introduction to Child Psychology | 3 | | CDEV 110 | Child, Family and Community (DS2) | 3 | | CJ 101 | Introduction to Criminal Justice | 3 | | COMM 120 | Introduction to Intercultural Communication | 3 | | COMM 120H | Honors Introduction to Intercultural Communication | 3 | | ENGL C1001 | Critical Thinking and Writing | 4 | | ENGL C1001H | Critical Thinking and Writing - Honors | 4 | | HIST 120 | The United States to 1877 | 3 | | HIST 120H | Honors The United States to 1877 | 3 | | HIST 121 | The United States Since 1865 | 3 | | HIST 121H | Honors the United States Since 1865 | 3 | | PSYC 160 | Introduction to Lifespan Psychology | 3 | | PSYC 230 | Psychology of Adjustment | 3 | | PSYC 250 | Introduction to Abnormal Psychology | 3 | | SOC 116 | Social Problems | 3 | ### Learning Outcomes - Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of theoretical perspectives, legal and ethical principles and social issues related to Social Work and Human Services fields.   - Develop communication skills and cultural competencies as a foundation to success in the fields of Social Work and Human Services.
