The program provides the skills and knowledge to implement a healthier, sustainable food system that emphasizes small-scale urban food production.\n\n**Award Notes:**\nA Certificate of Performance is a departmental award that does not appear on the student’s transcript. All courses must be completed within the San Diego Community College District.\nThis program is not eligible for federal financial aid in accordance with Federal regulations.\n\n**Learning Outcome(s): Students who complete the Organic Gardening for the Culinary Arts Program will be able to:**\n\n1.  Understand and explain the three facets of sustainability (economic, environmental and social) both in general and as they apply specifically to landscaping practices.\n2.  Understand and explain the components of a food system.\n3.  Design an organic urban farm that supports natural ecosystems, human health, and water conservation.\n4.  Evaluate the soil food web.\n5.  Create a crop plan that is appropriate for the southwest region.\n6.  Identify plant disease and pests and incorporate integrated pest management and other organic strategies for a resilient food system.\n7.  Demonstrate basic propagation techniques."
