      "markdown": "### Summary\n\nThe Associate of Science Degree in Chemistry certifies that the student has emphasized the theory and practice of chemistry and has met the preparation for the major in chemistry.\n\n**Award Note:**\nThe Associate Degree requires a minimum of 60 degree applicable semester units.\n\n**Learning Outcome(s): Students who complete the Chemistry Program will be able to:**\n\n1.  Demonstrate an understanding of safe handling of chemicals and a respect for chemicals, their properties, and their effect on the environment.\n2.  Demonstrate an awareness of the ways in which different aspects of nature (e.g., our local environment on Earth, the inner workings of the human body, etc.) can be known through and are connected by chemistry.\n3.  Demonstrate an understanding of how chemistry is the study of matter and its changes.\n4.  Demonstrate proficiency in a number of techniques and analyses employed in the chemistry laboratory."
