      "markdown": "##### Program Description\n\nThe Assistant Teacher certificate program is designed to prepare students to complete the minimum academic certification of the Merritt College Child development department.  The Assistant Teacher Certification qualifies students to obtain the Assistant Teacher Permit issued by the Commission on Teaching Credentialing.\n\n##### Career Opportunities\n\nThe Assistant Teacher Certificate prepares students for the first tier of the California Commission on Credentialing Assistant Teacher permit. This permit allows students who complete the coursework to work as a teacher's aide or assistant in many Early Childhood settings.\n\n##### Learning Outcome(s)\n\n1.  Differentiate between and apply the concepts of development domains (physical, cognitive, social-emotional, language/literacy) in the classroom.\n2.  Discuss how young children learn through play."
