      "markdown": "The Journalism Department offers practical newspaper experience and academic preparation for students preparing to transfer to four-year institutions. Emphasis is placed on new technologies and preparation for media jobs in a computer-oriented society. Additional areas of study include journalism history, ethics, law, and the role of the press in our society.\n\n**Career Opportunities**\n\nStudents who complete the Journalism program are prepared for careers in the expanding communications field, which includes print, online and video journalism, along with computer production skills.\n\n**Program Learning Outcomes**\n\nUpon completion of this program a student will be able to:\n\n1.  Assemble a portfolio of appropriate photographs, written articles, writings, or digital media that reflects the skills and understanding of techniques of journalism.\n2.  Write news, features, and opinion pieces.\n3.  Apply media law, fact-checking and ethics to the journalistic process."
