# Fundamentals of Engineering II (Certificate of Achievement) Gavilan College · 2026-2027 Catalog · Department: Physical Science and Engineering Source: https://gavilan.curriqunet.com/catalog/iq/4089/4144/4355 The intermediate Fundamentals of Engineering II Certificate of Achievement is designed to build on the basic Fundamentals of Engineering I certificate. This intermediate certificate is the second of three on the pathway towards earning an Associate Degree in Engineering and transfer to a UC or CSU to earn a bachelor's degree in engineering. The certificate continues to build on the essential math and science courses required by most engineering degrees across California (MATH 1B and PHYS 4A). In addition, students take a programming course which will provide the essential skills to be a marketable engineer in the industry. Students have the option of selecting ENGR 5 (Programming with MATLAB) or CSIS 45 (Programming with C++). Students that complete the intermediate Fundamentals of Engineering II Certificate of Achievement will have acquired the skills needed to tackle academic and industry internships in the the engineering field. **Learning Outcome(s):** 1. Acquire, develop, and refine the prerequisite mathematics and science foundational skills to be successful in sophomore level engineering courses such as Statics, Circuit Analysis, or Materials Science and Engineering. 2. Write computer programs and apply them towards solving engineering problems. | Course | Title | Units | | --- | --- | --- | | MATH 1A | Single-Variable Calculus and Analytic Geometry | 4 | | CHEM 1A | General Chemistry | 5 | | ENGR 10 | Introduction to Engineering | 3 | | MATH 1B | Single-Variable Calculus and Analytic Geometry | 4 | | PHYS 4A | Physics for Scientists and Engineers I | 4 | | ENGR 5 | Engineering Programming and Problem Solving | 3 | | CSIS 45 | C++ Programming I | 3 | | **Total** | | **** |
