Topics include forces, moments, couples, resultants, equilibrium conditions, trusses, centroids, moment of inertia, beams, shear and moment diagrams, cables, virtual work and friction. Students will combine analytical skills and the use of a high-programming language to solve real-world statics problems. Previous experience with scientific programming is recommended but not necessary. PREREQUISITE: Mathematics 1B and Physics 4A with a grade of 'C' or better. (C-ID ENGR 130) ### ENGR 3 — Electric Circuit Analysis - **Units:** 4 - **Prerequisite:** Math 2C (may be taken concurrently) and PHYS 4B with a grade of 'C' or better - **C-ID:** ENGR 260, ENGR 260L - **Offered:** Spring 2027, 1 section (/c/gavilan-college/schedule/spring-2027/engr.md) - Grading: Standard Letter Grade An introduction to the analysis of electrical circuits. Use of analytical techniques based on the application of circuit laws and network theorems. Analysis of DC and AC circuits containing resistors, capacitors, inductors, dependent sources, operational amplifiers, and/or switches. Natural and forced responses of first and second order RLC circuits; the use of phasors; AC power calculations; power transfer; and energy concepts. The lab portion of the course introduces the construction and measurement of electric circuits. Students learn how to use oscilloscopes, multimeters, function generators, power supplies, and computer simulation tools to study electric circuits. They also build and analyze a variety of circuits, including those with operational amplifiers, and investigate DC, transient, and AC steady state behavior. (C-ID: ENGR 260, ENGR 260L) PREREQUISITE: Math 2C (may be taken concurrently) and PHYS 4B with a grade of 'C' or better. ### ENGR 4 — Properties Of Materials - **Units:** 3 - **Prerequisite:** CHEM 1A and PHYS 4A with a grade of 'C' or better - **C-ID:** ENGR 140 - **Offered:** Fall 2026, 1 section (/c/gavilan-college/schedule/fall-2026/engr.md) - Grading: Standard Letter Grade This course presents the internal structures and resulting behaviors of materials used in engineering applications, including metals, ceramics, polymers, composites, and semiconductors. The emphasis is upon developing the ability both to select appropriate materials to meet engineering design criteria and to understand the effects of heat, stress, imperfections, and chemical environments upon material properties and performance. (C-ID: ENGR 140) PREREQUISITES: CHEM 1A and PHYS 4A with a grade of 'C' or better. ### ENGR 5 — Engineering Programming and Problem Solving - **Units:** 3 - **Prerequisite:** MATH 1A with a grade of 'C' or better.
