# Physical Education: Kinesiology (Associate of Arts-Transfer) El Camino College · 2026-2027 Catalog · Department: Physical Education Source: http://catalog.elcamino.edu/preview_program.php?catoid=13&poid=3642 **Kinesiology, Athletics, and Public Safety Division** www.elcamino.edu/academics/divisions/kinesiology-athletics-and-public-safety/ The kinesiology program provides a foundation for the study of diverse dimensions of exercise science, sport, and movement studies. Upon completion of the program, students will be prepared to transfer and major in kinesiology. Students will have knowledge and skills for advancement into a number of kinesiology fields, such as adapted physical education, athletic training, coaching, exercise science, fitness specialist, kinesiotherapy, and teaching. Competency will be assessed by a student's ability to solve problems in exercise science, exercise program design and to demonstrate and/or evaluate movement skills, tactics, and strategies in various physical activities. The Associate of Arts for Transfer (AA-T) is intended for students who plan to complete a bachelor's degree in a similar major at a CSU campus. Students completing the AA-T are given priority consideration for admission to the CSU system, but not to a particular campus or major. In order to earn an AA-T degree, students must complete: 1. Completion of 60 semester units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University. 2. The California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC) Requirements. 3. A minimum of 18 semester units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district. 4. Obtainment of a minimum grade point average of 2.0. 5. A grade of "C" or better in all courses required for the major or area of emphasis. Students who have completed the AA-T will have a strong academic foundation in the field and will be prepared for upper division baccalaureate study at the university. The coursework will satisfy most of the lower-division requirements at many institutions within the California State University system. Students transferring to a UC, private, or out-of-state university should consult with an El Camino College counselor when planning to complete the degree since transfer requirements may be slightly different than those required for the AA-T. ### Required Core: 11 units | Course | Title | Units | | --- | --- | --- | | PE 277 | Introduction to Kinesiology | 3 | #### Select Option 1 or Option 2 ##### Option 1 | Course | Title | Units | | --- | --- | --- | | ANAT 32 | General Human Anatomy | 4 | | PHYO 31 | Human Physiology | 4 | ##### Option 2 | Course | Title | Units | | --- | --- | --- | | APHY 34A | Anatomy and Physiology I | 4 | | APHY 34B | Anatomy and Physiology II | 4 | ### 3-5 units of Movement-Based Courses Select a maximum of one course from any two to three categories: #### Aquatics: | Course | Title | Units | | --- | --- | --- | | PE 240A | Beginning Swimming | 1 | | PE 240B | Intermediate Swimming | 1 | | PE 240C | Advanced Swimming | 1 | | PE 250 | Techniques of Surfboard Riding | 1 | #### Combative: | Course | Title | Units | | --- | --- | --- | | PE 18A | Beginning Boxing | 1 | | PE 18B | Intermediate Boxing | 1 | #### Dance: | Course | Title | Units | | --- | --- | --- | | DANC 110 | Beginning Dance | 2 | | DANC 120A | Beginning Ballet A | 2 | | DANC 120B | Beginning Ballet B | 2 | | DANC 130A | Beginning Contemporary Modern Dance A | 2 | | DANC 130B | Beginning Contemporary Modern Dance B | 2 | | DANC 140 | Jazz Dance I | 2 | | DANC 161 | Tap Dance I - Beginning | 1 | | DANC 162A | Beginning Hip Hop Dance A | 2 | | DANC 165 | African Dance | 1 | | DANC 167 | Social and Ballroom Dance | 1 | | DANC 168 | Latin Social Dance | 2 | | DANC 220A | Intermediate Ballet A | 2 | | DANC 220B | Intermediate Ballet B | 2 | | DANC 230A | Intermediate Contemporary Modern Dance A | 2 | | DANC 230B | Intermediate Contemporary Modern Dance B | 2 | | DANC 240 | Jazz Dance II | 2 | | DANC 250 | Introduction to Pilates | 3 | | DANC 261 | Tap Dance II - Intermediate | 2 | | DANC 262 | Commercial Dance | 2 | | DANC 265 | Intermediate African Dance | 2 | | DANC 268 | Intermediate Latin Social Dance | 2 | #### Fitness: | Course | Title | Units | | --- | --- | --- | | PE 2A | Walking for Fitness | 1 | | PE 2B | Power Walking for Fitness | 1 | | PE 3 | Boot Camp Fitness Training | 1 | | PE 10A | Body Conditioning and Physical Fitness | 1 | | PE 10B | Intermediate Body Conditioning and Physical Fitness | 1 | | PE 54A | Beginning Weight Training | 1 | | PE 54B | Intermediate Weight Training | 1 | | PE 54C | Advanced Weight Training | 1 | | PE 245 | Water Aerobics | 1 | | PE 249 | Swimming for Fitness | 1 | | PE 254 | Cardio Fitness and Body Sculpting | 1 | | PE 257 | Yoga for Health and Fitness | 1 | | PE 258 | Power Vinyasa Yoga | 1 | | PE 259 | Circuit Training | 1 | #### Individual Sports: | Course | Title | Units | | --- | --- | --- | | PE 204 | Badminton | 1 | | PE 224 | Golf | 1 | | PE 251A | Beginning Tennis | 1 | | PE 251B | Intermediate Tennis | 1 | #### Team Sports: | Course | Title | Units | | --- | --- | --- | | PE 4A | Beginning Basketball | 1 | | PE 4B | Intermediate Basketball | 1 | | PE 7 | Baseball | 1 | | PE 74A | Beginning Soccer | 1 | | PE 74B | Intermediate Soccer | 1 | | PE 79 | Futsal/Indoor Soccer | 1 | | PE 239 | Slow Pitch Softball | 1 | | PE 253 | Volleyball | 1 | ### List A: 7-9 units | Course | Title | Units | | --- | --- | --- | | BIOL 10 | Fundamentals of Biology | 4 | | or BIOL 10H | Honors Fundamentals of Biology | 4 | | CHEM 1A | General Chemistry I | 5 | | or CHEM 4 | Beginning Chemistry | 5 | | or CHEM 4H | Honors Beginning Chemistry | 5 | | or CHEM 20 | Fundamentals of Chemistry | 5 | | or CHEM 21A | Survey of General and Organic Chemistry | 4 | | FAID 1 | First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Basic Emergency Care | 3 | | PHYS 2A | General Physics | 4 | | STAT C1000 | Introduction to Statistics | 4 | | or STAT C1000H | Introduction to Statistics - Honors | 4 | | or PSYC 109A | Introduction to Statistics and Data Analysis for the Behavioral Sciences | 4 | | or SOCI 109A | Introduction to Statistics and Data Analysis for the Behavioral Sciences | 4 | **Total Major Units: 21-25** ### Recommended Electives: | Course | Title | Units | | --- | --- | --- | | C H 1 | Personal and Community Health Issues | 3 | | NUTR 110 | Introduction to Nutrition Science | 3 | | PE 266 | Stress Management for Healthy Living | 3 | | PE 272 | Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries | 3 | | PE 280 | Exercise and Nutrition Programs for Fitness and Weight Management | 3 | | PE 212 | Sport and Society | 3 | | PE 270 | Fitness and Sports Nutrition | 3 | | PE 273 | Theory of Coaching | 3 | | PE 275 | Sport Psychology | 3 | | PE 290 | Personal Fitness Trainer | 3 | ### GE Pattern Complete the following: #### Cal-GETC: 34 units Required for transfer degrees (AA-T and AS-T). ### Electives As needed to reach a minimum of 60 degree-applicable units. **Minimum Degree Total: 60 units**
