# Geology - AS-T (A.S. Degree for Transfer) College of the Siskiyous · 2026-2027 Catalog · Department: Degrees and Certificates A-Z Source: https://siskiyous.elumenapp.com/catalog/cos26-27catalog/program/geology-as-t-fall-2025 **Credits:** 26.0 credits Geology is the study of the Earth. Geologists apply a wide range of scientific ideas and techniques to understand both the processes that are changing the planet today as well as those that have shaped it— and the life it supports—during the past 4.6 billion years. Geologists play key roles in helping society manage Earth resources, assess the threats posed by geologic hazards and understand the rapid changes now occurring in the planet’s environment. All of these issues are expected to become more critical as Earth’s human population grows, which is why the geoscience workforce is predicted to increase faster (14%) during the coming decade than the overall U.S. workforce (11%). Located along the boundary between two of California’s major geologic provinces, College of the Siskiyous is uniquely situated to give prospective geology students diverse field experiences and excellent preparation for transfer to a 4-year college or university. The Associate of Science in Geology for Transfer will prepare students for further studies toward a California State University (CSU) baccalaureate degree in Geology and some other Earth Sciences. Other requirements include completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units of degree-applicable courses, minimum overall grade point average of 2.0, minimum grade of “C” (or “P”) for each course in the major, and completion of Cal-GETC (California General Education Transfer Curriculum). ### Program Requirements | Course | Title | Units | | --- | --- | --- | | **Complete: Complete all of the following** | | 26 | | **As part of the GE classes required for completion of the degree, students should plan to take English 1001 and complete the Math competency requirement their first year.** | | | | **Important: To obtain the Associate in Science Degree in Geology for Transfer, students must complete the following requirements with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0:** | | | | **Any needed transferable electives to reach a total of 60 CSU transferable units.** | | | | ESCI 1210 | Physical Geology/Lab | 4 | | ESCI 1220 | Historical Geology/Lab | 4 | | CHEM 2000 | General Chemistry I | 5 | | CHEM 2100 | General Chemistry II | 5 | | MATH 1400 | Calculus and Analytic Geometry I | 4 | | MATH 1500 | Calculus and Analytic Geometry II | 4 | ### Recommended Sequence #### Geology -- AS-T **TERM 1** (8 units) - ESCI1210 - Physical Geology/Lab (4) - MATH1400 - Calculus and Analytic Geometry I (4) **TERM 2** (8 units) - MATH1500 - Calculus and Analytic Geometry II (4) - ESCI1220 - Historical Geology/Lab (4) **TERM 3** (5 units) - CHEM2000 - General Chemistry I (5) **TERM 4** (5 units) - CHEM2100 - General Chemistry II (5) ### Program Outcomes #### GEOLOGY--AS-T
