The four-semester program provides theory and clinical content required for registered nursing licensure. Upon completion of the degree, the student will be eligible for the national/state licensure examination for registered nursing.\n\nA registered nurse can seek employment in a variety of settings: acute care hospitals, community/home health care, skilled nursing and long-term care facilities, clinics, physicians' offices, and any number of private industries that interface with health care delivery. A national shortage of registered nurses is predicted for the next two decades.\n\n**Admission to the Program:**\n\nStudents are admitted by application only. In the event there are more qualified candidates than vacancies in the class, a computer lottery will select the individuals to be enrolled. Applicants that are not selected for enrollment must reapply if they wish to be considered for admission to a future program.\n\nContact the Nursing Department or https://www.butte.edu/academic-programs/coi-hps/dept-nursing/index.html for application dates and materials.\n\n**Requirements for Application:**\n\n- Age 17 or older with a 12th grade education or equivalent.\n- A minimum composite score of 62 on the latest version of the TEAS test (may be repeated once).\n- Prerequisites: Must each be completed with a minimum C grade prior to application, and an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher\n - CMST 4 or COMM C1000\n - ENGL C1000 or ENGL C1000E\n - FN 2\n - PSYC C1000\n - Biology Prerequisites: These three courses must be completed with combined GPA of 2.5 or higher, minimum C grade for each, and no more than one repetition of any one of these courses.\n - BIOL 15 - Introduction to Microbiology\n - BIOL 20 - Human Anatomy\n - BIOL 21 - Human Physiology\n- Applicants that have failed more than once from any nursing program (LVN and/or RN) are ineligible to apply.\n- Advanced Placement exam credit will only be accepted for AP English Composition and/or AP Psychology. Official test scores must be submitted to Admissions & Records.\n- Remaining general education courses may be in progress at the time of application but must be completed before program begins.\n\nPersons with substance abuse issues or with conviction of crimes substantially related to the practice of nursing may not be granted a license by the California Board of Registered Nursing. Fingerprints are a required part of the application for licensure. Records that are expunged or sealed, and juvenile records will be accessed and reviewed.
