Please see the beginning of the “Academic Programs” section for details. **Program Learning Outcome(s):** Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to: 1. Identify and interpret common rocks, minerals, fossils and geologic structures. 2. Explain the physical and biological changes that have occurred on earth throughout geologic time using modern theories such as plate tectonics and evolution. 3. Demonstrate an understanding of the geologic time scale and determine the age of rocks using both relative and absolute dating methods. 4. Synthesize information from plate tectonics theory and other science disciplines to solve geologic problems and explain geologic phenomena such as mountain building, patterns of igneous activity and seismicity. 5. Read and interpret topographic and geologic maps in order to answer geologic questions. 6. Demonstrate the analytical and critical thinking skills needed to succeed in a four-year geology program. | Course | Title | Units | | --- | --- | --- | | **Required courses:** | | 27 | | CHEM 1 | General Chemistry I | 5 | | CHEM 2 | General Chemistry II | 5 | | GEOL 32 | Physical Geology with Lab | 4 | | GEOL 34 | Historical Geology with Lab | 4 | | MATH C2220 | Calculus II: Early Transcendentals | 4 | | **Select one:** | | 5 | | MATH C2210 | Calculus I: Early Transcendentals | 5 | | MATH C2210E | Calculus I: Early Transcendentals – Embedded Support | 5 | | **Total** | | **27** |
