Through a combination of lecture-based courses and hands-on laboratory experiences, students will learn about the anatomy and physiology of various systems within the human body, including the cardiovascular, respiratory, and nervous systems. Additionally, the program includes coursework in genetics, microbiology, and biochemistry, which will allow students to understand the molecular basis of human biology. Graduates of the program will be well-prepared to transfer to a four-year university to continue their education in a variety of fields, including biology, nursing, and healthcare. Upon completion of graduation requirements and the required degree courses with at least a “C” or “P” grade in each course, the student will be eligible for an Associate of Science degree. ### Program Learning Outcomes - 1\. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to demonstrate proficiency using science equipment (e.g. microscope, dissecting tools, reflex hammer, etc.). - 2\. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to apply appropriate and effective solutions to identify medical problems and their treatments and analyze a clinical situation using anatomical terminology. - 3\. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to utilize correct technology and medical testing for examining, analyzing, and determining a diagnosis when a pathology is described, and create a plan of action. - 4\. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to demonstrate the use of critical thinking and scientific problem-solving skills (including but not limited to inferring, integrating, synthesizing, and summarizing) to analyze data, extrapolate information, and draw conclusions as they relate to college-level science courses. ### Program Requirements | Course | Title | Units | | --- | --- | --- | | **Human Biology Associate of Science: Complete all of the following** | | 18 | | **Core courses: Complete all of the following** | | 13 | | BIOL B16 | General Microbiology | 5 | | BIOL B32 | Human Anatomy and Physiology I | 4 | | BIOL B33 | Human Anatomy and Physiology II | 4 | | **List A** | | 5 | | CHEM B2A | Intro General Chemistry | 4 | | CHEM B11 | Introduction to General, Organic, and Biochemistry | 5 | | CHEM B1A | General Chemistry I | 5 | | CHEM B1B | General Chemistry and Chemical Analysis | 5 | | MEDS B37 | Medical Terminology | 3 |
