#### English for Multilingual Students Reading Certificate of Competency

This is a Certificate of Competency awarded to students who have completed more than 96 hours of intermediate and advanced EMLS reading coursework. To Achieve the Certificate of Competency: Upon completion of the required courses with a grade of “P” for passing, the student will be awarded a Certificate of Competency.

### Program Learning Outcomes

-   1\. Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to Demonstrate critical thinking skills by analyzing a wide range of personal, professional, academic and literary non-adapted/authentic texts, including online sources, written for native English speakers.

-   2\. Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to Comprehend, summarize, paraphrase, respond, and make inferences to academic readings.

-   3\. Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to Conduct research and use synthesis with academic readings.
