      "markdown": "#### English for Multilingual Students Advanced Certificate of Competency\n\nThis is a Certificate of Competency awarded to students who have completed more than 144 hours of advanced EMLS reading, writing, and listening/speaking coursework. To Achieve the Certificate of Competency: Upon completion of the required courses with a grade of “P” for passing, the student will be awarded a Certificate of Competency.\n\n### Program Learning Outcomes\n\n-   1\\. Upon completion, the student will be able to write expository essays of 500-750 words that successfully synthesize at least two outside sources, including non-fiction, using a variety of rhetorical modes, and demonstrate familiarity with MLA format.\n\n-   2\\. Upon completion, the student will be able to conduct research and use synthesis with academic readings.\n\n-   3\\. Upon completion, the student will be able to apply critical thinking skills and global awareness by analyzing information relevant to global events, presenting oral arguments, and defending theses.\n\n### Program Requirements"
