# General Engineering (A.S. Degree) Antelope Valley College · 2026-2027 Catalog · Department: Engineering Source: https://avc.elumenapp.com/catalog/2026-27/program/general-engineering-as-fall-2026 The Associate in Science in General Engineering provides students with a broad foundation in the principles of engineering, mathematics, and physical sciences. This degree is designed to support students who are exploring multiple engineering disciplines or who intend to transfer to a university program that does not align precisely with a single engineering track. The program enhances students’ problem-solving abilities, critical thinking, and technical skills. Students completing this degree will be prepared for junior-level coursework in a variety of engineering fields, including but not limited to Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, Civil, and Computer Engineering. The curriculum includes core courses common to most engineering transfer programs, allowing students to tailor their education to their interests while remaining within an eligible program of study. The requirements for an Associate in Science in General Engineering may be satisfied by completing the courses listed below in addition to the associate degree requirements. (See Graduation/Associate Degree Requirements.) ### Program Requirements | Course | Title | Units | | --- | --- | --- | | **General Engineering: Complete all of the following** | | 73 | | **Core Courses: Complete all of the following** | | 60 | | ENGR 110 | Introduction to Engineering | 3 | | ENGR 125 | Programming and Problem-Solving in MATLAB | 4 | | ENGR 130 | Materials Science | 4 | | ENGR 140 | Engineering 3D Graphics | 3 | | ENGR 185 | Digital Logic and Design | 4 | | ENGR 210 | Statics | 4 | | ENGR 230 | Circuit Analysis | 4 | | CHEM 120 | General Chemistry | 5 | | MATH 160 | Calculus and Analytic Geometry | 4 | | MATH 220 | Linear Algebra | 4 | | MATH 230 | Introduction to Ordinary Differential Equations | 4 | | MATH 250 | Calculus and Analytic Geometry | 4 | | PHYS 110 | General Physics | 4 | | PHYS 120 | General Physics | 4 | | PHYS 211 | General Physics | 5 | | **Calulus I Option** | | 5 | | MATH 150 | Calculus and Analytic Geometry | 5 | | MATH 150H | Calculus & Analytic Geometry Honors | 5 | | **Chemistry I Option** | | 5 | | CHEM 110 | General Chemistry | 5 | | CHEM 110H | General Chemistry Honors | 5 | | **Programming Option** | | 3 | | CS 120 | Programming and Algorithms in C++ | 3 | | CS 121 | Programming and Algorithms in Java | 3 | | CS 122 | Programming and Algorithms in Python | 3 | ### Recommended Pathway #### General Engineering AS **Term 1** (15 units) - ENGR110 - Introduction to Engineering (3) - MATH150 - Calculus and Analytic Geometry (5) - Any AVC GE Area 4 (3) - ENGLC1000 - Academic Reading and Writing (4) **Term 2** (14 units) - MATH160 - Calculus and Analytic Geometry (4) - PHYS110 - General Physics (4) - ENGR140 - Engineering 3D Graphics (3) - Any AVC GE Area 1B (3) **Term 3** (14 units) - Any AVC GE Area 6 (3) - MATH250 - Calculus and Analytic Geometry (4) - PHYS120 - General Physics (4) - CS120 - Programming and Algorithms in C++ (3) - CS121 - Programming and Algorithms in Java (3) - CS122 - Programming and Algorithms in Python (3) **Term 4** (16 units) - CHEM110 - General Chemistry (5) - ENGR125 - Programming and Problem-Solving in MATLAB (4) - ENGR185 - Digital Logic and Design (4) - Any AVC GE Area 3 (3) **Term 5** (13 units) - ENGR130 - Materials Science (4) - MATH220 - Linear Algebra (4) - CHEM120 - General Chemistry (5) **Term 6** (17 units) - ENGR210 - Statics (4) - MATH230 - Introduction to Ordinary Differential Equations (4) - ENGR230 - Circuit Analysis (4) - PHYS211 - General Physics (5) ### Program Outcomes ### General Engineering AS
