# Computer Science (A.S.-T Degree) Antelope Valley College · 2026-2027 Catalog · Department: Computer Science Source: https://avc.elumenapp.com/catalog/2026-27/program/computer-science-as-t-fall-2026 The Associate in Science in Computer Science for Transfer (AS-T in Computer Science) degree is to provide students with a foundational knowledge of computer science, to enhance their problem-solving skills, sharpen their critical thinking and the opportunity to seamlessly transfer to a California State University in advanced standing as a Computer Science major. Additionally, the degree can prepare students in areas of science and engineering. The Associate in Science in Computer Science for Transfer (AS-T in Computer Science) degree meets the requirements of SB 1440 for Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADT). These degrees are intended to make it easier for students to transfer to California State University campuses but do not exclude admittance to other colleges or universities. To earn the Associate in Science in Computer Science for Transfer (AS-T in Computer Science) degree a student must complete the following: - Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units of degree-applicable courses - Minimum overall grade point average of 2.0 - Minimum grade of “C” (or “P”) for each course in the major - Completion of the Cal-GETC pattern - A minimum of 18-semester units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district ### Program Requirements | Course | Title | Units | | --- | --- | --- | | **Computer Science AST Core Courses: Complete all of the following** | | 30-31 | | **Programming Language Options; Select One Grouping** | | 6 | | **C/C++ Programming: Complete all of the following** | | 6 | | CS 120 | Programming and Algorithms in C++ | 3 | | CS 130 | Data Structures using C++ | 3 | | **Java Programming: Complete all of the following** | | 6 | | CS 121 | Programming and Algorithms in Java | 3 | | CS 131 | Data Structures using Java | 3 | | **Python Programming: Complete all of the following** | | 6 | | CS 122 | Programming and Algorithms in Python | 3 | | CS 132 | Data Structures using Python | 3 | | **Core Courses Required: Complete all of the following** | | 20 | | CS 140 | Assembly Language and Computer Architecture | 3 | | CS 150 | Discrete Structures | 4 | | MATH 150 | Calculus and Analytic Geometry | 5 | | MATH 160 | Calculus and Analytic Geometry | 4 | | PHYS 110 | General Physics | 4 | | **Core Course Options** | | 4-5 | | BIOL 110 | General Molecular Cell Biology | 5 | | BIOL 120 | General Organismal, Ecological and Evolutionary Biology | 5 | | CHEM 110 | General Chemistry | 5 | | PHYS 120 | General Physics | 4 | ### Recommended Pathway #### Computer Science AS-T CalGETC **Summer 1** (6 units) - Any Cal-GETC GE Area 3A (3) - Any Cal-GETC GE Area 1C (3) **Semester 1** (15 units) - Any Cal-GETC GE Area 3B (3) - CS120 - Programming and Algorithms in C++ (3) - CS121 - Programming and Algorithms in Java (3) - CS122 - Programming and Algorithms in Python (3) - ENGLC1000 - Academic Reading and Writing (4) - MATH150 - Calculus and Analytic Geometry (5) **Semester 2** (13 units) - CS130 - Data Structures using C++ (3) - CS131 - Data Structures using Java (3) - CS132 - Data Structures using Python (3) - MATH160 - Calculus and Analytic Geometry (4) - Any Cal-GETC GE Area 5B (3) - Any Cal-GETC GE Area 1B (3) **Semester 3** (13 units) - CS140 - Assembly Language and Computer Architecture (3) - PHYS110 - General Physics (4) - Any Cal-GETC GE Area 4 (3) - Any Cal-GETC GE Area 4 (3) **Semester 4** (13-14 units) - CS150 - Discrete Structures (4) - BIOL110 - General Molecular Cell Biology (5) - BIOL120 - General Organismal, Ecological and Evolutionary Biology (5) - CHEM110 - General Chemistry (5) - PHYS120 - General Physics (4) - Any Cal-GETC GE Area 6 (3) - General Elective (2) ### Program Outcomes ### Computer Science AS-T
