# Biology (A.S.-T Degree) Antelope Valley College · 2026-2027 Catalog · Department: Biological & Environmental Sciences Source: https://avc.elumenapp.com/catalog/2026-27/program/biology-as-t-fall-2026 Biology is the scientific study of life through the observation of structure, function, reproduction, growth, origin, evolution, and behavior of living organisms and their relation to each other and their environment. Biologists have deepened our understanding of processes and interactions on all levels of biological organization from elucidating cellular processes to fight cancer to assessing interactions in communities that might help prevent the extinction of species. Studying biology provides a background for students to evaluate and understand new discoveries and to make informed decisions about the use of scientific knowledge to benefit all living organisms. The Associate of Science in Biology for Transfer (AS-T) prepares student for upper division biology courses, including general biology, cell or molecular biology, organism biology, marine biology, botany, zoology, ecology, evolution, genetics, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and agricultural sciences. To earn an Associate of Science in Biology for Transfer (AS-T in Biology) degree a student must complete the following: - Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units of degree-applicable courses - A minimum of 18-semester units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district - Completion of the Cal-GETC pattern - Minimum grade of “C” (or “P”) for each course in the major - Minimum overall grade point average of 2.0 ### Program Requirements | Course | Title | Units | | --- | --- | --- | | **Biology AS-T: Complete all of the following** | | 33 | | **Required Courses** | | 10 | | BIOL 110 | General Molecular Cell Biology | 5 | | BIOL 120 | General Organismal, Ecological and Evolutionary Biology | 5 | | **Required Electives A: Complete all of the following** | | 23 | | **Required Electives A: Complete all of the following** | | 5 | | CHEM 120 | General Chemistry | 5 | | **Required Electives A: Choose one** | | 5 | | CHEM 110 | General Chemistry | 5 | | CHEM 110H | General Chemistry Honors | 5 | | **Required Electives A: Choose one** | | 5 | | MATH 150 | Calculus and Analytic Geometry | 5 | | MATH 150H | Calculus & Analytic Geometry Honors | 5 | | **Required Electives A: Choose either PHYS 101 and 102 OR PHYS 110 and 120** | | 8 | | PHYS 101 | Introductory Physics | 4 | | PHYS 102 | Introductory Physics | 4 | | PHYS 110 | General Physics | 4 | | PHYS 120 | General Physics | 4 | ### Recommended Pathway #### Biology AS-T **Fall, First Semester** (17 units) - CHEM110 - General Chemistry (5) - MATH150 - Calculus and Analytic Geometry (5) - ENGLC1000 - Academic Reading and Writing (4) - Any Cal-GETC GE Area 3B (3) **Spring, Second Semester** (14 units) - CHEM120 - General Chemistry (5) - Any Cal-GETC GE Area 1B (3) - Any Cal-GETC GE Area 4 (3) - Any Cal-GETC GE Area 6 (3) **Fall, Third Semester** (14 units) - BIOL110 - General Molecular Cell Biology (5) - PHYS101 - Introductory Physics (4) - Any Cal-GETC GE Area 1C (3) - General Elective (2) **Spring, Fourth Semester** (15 units) - BIOL120 - General Organismal, Ecological and Evolutionary Biology (5) - Any Cal-GETC GE Area 4 (3) - PHYS102 - Introductory Physics (4) - Any Cal-GETC GE Area 3A (3) ### Program Outcomes ### Biology AS-T
